Family And Early Life Of Alejandro Sanz
Sanz was born on December 18, 1968, in Madrid, Spain, to María Pizarro and Jesús Sánchez. He spent his childhood in the eastern Madrid neighborhood of Moratalaz. “Back then, kids grew up on the street… I was a bit like the group troubadour, the one who played the guitar and sang,” he said. That saved me a lot of grief,” he added.
Sanz’s father, a door-to-door book merchant, was a professional musician who influenced Sanz’s interest in the guitar. However, his mother eventually grew weary of his dedication to the instrument and destroyed it one morning after he kept the family from sleeping by practicing.
He was introduced to typical flamenco music when he was a youngster, spending each summer with his parents in southern Spain’s Andalusia. Sanz aspired to be a flamenco artist until he discovered that the music instructors were overly strict.
“The first time I tried flamenco was tough on me,” Sanz recalled. “It’s rather difficult for novices. They’ll throw you out if you lose the beat, saying things like, ‘You’re no good, boy!’ They’re extremely hard and cruel.
Alejandro Sanz | Early Career
When Sanz was a kid, he performed in numerous locations in Madrid. He eventually met music industry executive Miguel Ángel Arenas, who assisted him in getting employment. Sanz signed with Hispavox Records and released his debut album, “Los Chulos Son Pa‘ Cuidarlos,” in 1989; however, the album failed to succeed. Sanz went on a hiatus from performing to study business administration while on a music break.
He has also written songs for other recording artists. In 1991, Sanz released his second studio album, “Viviendo Deprisa,” under Warner Music Latina. It was far more successful than his debut record, allowing Sanz to develop a dedicated nationwide following in Spain.
The next year, he released “Si Tú Me Miras” and the live album “Básico.” In 1995, Sanz released “3,” which included the hit single “La Fuerza del Corazón.” The song became his first to chart internationally.
