Hood was picked by the Utah Jazz with the 23rd selection in the 2014 NBA draft on June 26, 2014, and signed his rookie-scale contract with the team on July 11. He had a season-high 24 points on March 16, 2015, after hitting 9-of-11 shots from the field and 5-of-5 from outside the arc to help the Jazz beat the Charlotte Hornets, 94–66, for their sixth straight win.

Three days later, he made his Cavaliers debut, scoring 15 points in a 121–99 triumph over the Boston Celtics. Hood declined to join Game 4 against the Toronto Raptors with the Cavaliers up 110-80 with 7:38 left in the fourth quarter on May 7, 2018, citing dissatisfaction with his lack of playing time.
He later expressed regret. The Cavaliers advanced to the NBA Finals in 2018 but were defeated 4–0 by the Golden State Warriors. Hood re-signed with the Cavaliers on September 10, 2018. He had a season-high 26 points in a 136–114 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Hood was sent to the Portland Trail Blazers on February 4, 2019, in exchange for Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin IV, and two future second-round selections. In a 118–108 win over the Charlotte Hornets on March 3, 2019, he set a season-high with 27 points, all in the second half. Hood scored a postseason career-high 25 points in Game 6 of the Trail Blazers’ second-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets.
