American actor and musician Jacob Lumet Cannavale made a Broadway appearance in Larry David’s comedy Fish in the Dark. Additionally, he has made guest appearances on The Mandalorian and Nurse Jackie.

The American actor is the grandson of director Sidney Lumet, the son of actor Bobby Cannavale and screenwriter Jenny Lumet, and the great-grandson of actress/singer Lena Horne. Let’s get to know him better.

Jake Cannavale, born on May 1, 1995, in Manhattan, is a well-known American actor-musician known for his role as the son of a character portrayed by his real-life father, actor Bobby Cannavale, in the critically acclaimed medical comedy-drama series Nurse Jackie.

 

In the Broadway comedy Fish in the Dark, the 24-year-old also made an appearance as a stage actor alongside legendary comedian and TV personality Larry David.

Jake, the fourth generation of his illustrious family, appeared on Broadway after his father, Bobby. His maternal grandfather, the legendary filmmaker Sidney Lumet. His great-grandfather, actor Baruch Lumet, and his mother’s maternal grandmother, the legendary singer Lena Horne, made his Broadway debut while still in his teens despite his vows not to follow in his father’s footsteps.

3 May 1970 marked Jake’s father, Bobby Cannavale’s birth. Salvatore “Sal” Cannavale and his wife Isabel raised him in Union City, New Jersey. While his mother, a Cuban immigrant who arrived in the country in 1960, is of Cuban descent, his father is Italian. His education at St. Michael’s Catholic School came from his upbringing as a Catholic.

He is most notable for his television appearances, including starring parts in Mr. Robot, Vinyl, Third Watch, and recurring parts in Will & Grace.

He received the 2005 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor for his performance and the 2013 Primetime Emmy Award under the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his work in Boardwalk Empire.

Cannavale played Colin Belfast from 2018 to 2020 in the psychological suspense series Homecoming on Amazon Prime Video. He played a character in the Hulu miniseries Nine Perfect Strangers in 2021, which was adapted from Liane Moriarty’s book of the same name.

Cannavale is well known for his theater and movie roles. Cannavale received nominations for the Tony Awards for Best Featured Actor in a Play and Best Actor in a Play.

Jake’s mother, Jenny Lumet, is the granddaughter of Lena Horne and the daughter of director Sidney Lumet.

She is of Polish-Jewish ancestry on her father’s side. Baruch Lumet was a performer in Yiddish theater and was her paternal grandfather. She is African-American, European, and Native American on her mother’s side and has deep ties to post-colonial America.

Lena Horne, a singer, was her maternal grandmother. Lumet earned his diploma from Dalton School in 1984.

Perhaps Lumet’s most well-known work is the screenplay he wrote for the 2008 Jonathan Demme movie Rachel Getting Married.

Lumet started out as an actress in the entertainment business. Before playing Nancy Bosch in her father’s 1990 movie Q&A. She had small roles in his two films, Deathtrap and Running on Empty.

Later, he landed his one of the most notable roles in the TV series Nurse Jakie in 2012, where he portrayed Charlie Cruz for more than ten episodes.
