Sebastien Haller began his international career with the French youth national teams. He played for the under-17 team at the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup. In November 2020, Haller was called up to the Ivory Coast national team. On November 12, 2021, he debuted for the Ivory Coast in a 2–1 Africa Cup of Nations qualification victory over Madagascar. Haller has earned 23 caps for the Ivory Coast national team, scoring 11 goals. Haller has represented his country at the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup. Auxerre

Sebastien Haller’s club career at Auxerre began in 2011 when he signed his first professional contract with the team. He was promoted to the main squad by manager Jean-Guy Wallemme ahead of the 2012–13 season and made his professional debut on July 27, 2012, in a league game against Nîmes. Haller scored his first goal for Auxerre on August 18, 2012, in a 2-1 victory over Toulouse. Also, He made 24 appearances for the team in all competitions during the 2012–13 season, scoring two goals. Haller made 32 appearances for Auxerre and scored eight goals the following season. He also appeared in three UEFA Europa League matches, scoring one goal.

Utrecht

On December 24, 2014, Utrecht announced that Haller had been loaned to Dutch Eredivisie club Utrecht for the rest of the season. After the campaign, FC Utrecht announced that Haller had joined them. Haller began his club career at Eintracht Frankfurt in May 2017, signing a four-year contract. He immediately scored four goals in the German Cup (DFB-Pokal) in 2017-2018, helping Frankfurt to victory in the final – his first career triumph. He stepped up his game even further in the 2018-19 Bundesliga season, notching 15 goals in 29 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt. It placed them seventh in the league table. He also made nine assists, contributing to 24 goals – a mark only matched by Robert Lewandowski during the 2018-19 Bundesliga season when he had 29 involvements. West Ham United

On July 17, 2019, Haller signed a five-year deal with West Ham United for a club-record fee. He made his debut on August 10 in a 5-0 loss against Manchester City. On August 24, Haller scored his first goal for West Ham in a 3-1 away win against Watford. In May 2020, West Ham failed to pay an installment of £5.4million to Frankfurt, which led to Frankfurt reporting West Ham to FIFA. West Ham claimed they withheld the payment because of a contractual dispute between the two clubs. In December, Haller scored an overhead kick in a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, later voted as the Premier League Goal of the Month. Despite his accolades, Haller struggled to make an impact at West Ham, and he was sold to Ajax in January 2021 for £20 million, just 18 months after signing for the club.

Ajax

2020–21 Season

Haller signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Dutch club Ajax on January 8, 2021, for a club-record fee of €22.5 million (£18.8 million). He made his debut two days later as a substitute against De Topper rivals PSV; he provided an assist to Antony for the equalizing goal and had a goal ruled out by VAR for offside as the match ended 2–2. Haller scored his first goal for Ajax on January 14 in a 3-1 away win over Twente. However, on February 3, Ajax revealed that Haller had been left out of the Ajax squad list for the knockout stages of the Europa League and would not be able to play for the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury that he picked up in training. Despite this, he still finished his first season at the club with five goals and nine assists in all competitions.

2021–22 Season

On September 15, 2021, he scored two goals in each half in a 5-1 away victory over Sporting in the UEFA Champions League. It made him the first player to score four goals on his Champions League debut since Marco van Basten for A.C. Milan in 1992. In the next match of the Champions League season, on September 28, Haller recorded a goal against Beşiktaş, becoming the first player in the competition’s history to score five goals in his first two appearances.

In the reverse fixture, on November 24, Haller scored two goals and had another ruled out by VAR in a 2–1 win against Beşiktaş to put Ajax into the knockout stage of the Champions League as group winners. By scoring in both legs against Beşiktaş, Haller became just the third player to score three goals or more in his first two UEFA Champions League appearances after Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi. He was also named man of the match for his performance in both legs by WhoScored. Haller scored seven goals and provided one assist in six appearances during Ajax’s group stage campaign.

In February 2022, he made up for an earlier mistake and helped Ajax to a 2-2 draw against Benfica. He became the first player to score in seven consecutive matches in this competition. However, Ajax was eliminated in the round of 16 after losing to Benfica 3-2 on aggregate. He also finished the season as the top scorer in the Eredivisie with 21 goals in 31 games.
