Leland Tyler Wayne, better known as Metro Boomin, was born on September 16, 1993, in St Louis, Missouri, to Lamont and Leslie Wayne. His family is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. He has four siblings. His parents divorced when he was in third grade. After this point

At 16, Wayne began networking with prominent hip-hop artists on social media. His mother would frequently drive him from St. Louis to Atlanta so he could work with people he’d met through social media.
Tay Don was one of the first people with whom he collaborated; these collaborations included Gucci Mane, OJ Da Juiceman, and Future. After graduating from high school, Wayne moved to Atlanta to pursue a business administration degree at Morehouse College.
However, after a semester, he opted to take a break to focus on a professional music career. So, in 2013, as Metro Boomin, he launched his first mixtape, “19 & Boomin.”
Producing Breakthroughs
Metro became popular as a hip-hop producer in 2014. He collaborated as an executive producer on Future’s mixtape “Monster” in 2014 and produced the sixth single from Future’s studio album “Honest,” entitled “I Won.”
In 2015, Metro was an executive producer on Future and Drake’s collaborative mixtape “What a Time to Be Alive.” From there, he continued to work with Future prolifically, executive producing his 2016 album “Purple Reign” and the huge hit song “Jumpman.”
In 2016, Metro released such chart-toppers as Migos’ “Bad and Boujee” and 21 Savage’s “X,” as well as the six-track EP “Savage Mode” with 21 Savage. In 2017, Metro produced other chart-topping singles, including Future’s “Mask Off,” Kodak Black’s “Tunnel Vision,” and Big Sean’s “Bounce Back.”
Further EPs, Mixtapes, And Albums
In the summer of 2017, Metro released the collaborative mixtape “Perfect Timing” with Nav, a Canadian rapper and record producer.
In October 2017, he dropped the surprise album “Without Warning” with 21 Savage and Offset. The record debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, thanks to the lead single “Ric Flair Drip.“
In November, Metro followed up their joint studio album with Big Sean, named “Double or Nothing,” which was supported by the singles “Pull Up n Wreck” and “So Good.”
Despite announcing his retirement on his Instagram account in April 2018, Metro has received production credits on albums including Nicki Minaj’s “Queen” and Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter V.”
In the meantime, in November, he launched his first studio album “Not All Heroes Wear Capes.” It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, with appearances by Gucci Mane, Young Thug, Gunna, Drake, 21 Savage, and Travis Scott, among others.
In 2019, Metro worked with The Weeknd to create four tracks for his forthcoming album “After Hours“: “Escape from LA,” “Until I Bleed Out,” “Faith,” and the number-one smash hit single “Heartless.” In 2020, Metro released his fourth collaborative album with 21 Savage, entitled Savage Mode II.
Metro Boomin | Other Projects
Metro planned to release a collaborative album with Young Thug entitled “Metro Thuggin,” which he was promoting. A tune called “The Blanguage” was released as part of the promotion for the project. Unfortunately, “Metro Thuggin‘” was never released, despite leaked versions surfacing on the internet in late 2015.
In June 2017, Metro established its record label, Boominati Worldwide, in collaboration with Universal Music Group and Republic Records.
In January 2018, Metro featured in a Gap marketing campaign alongside rapper SZA; the spot also included a clip of Metro’s self-written remix of the Thompson Twins’ song “Hold Me Now.”
