Kolbeinn Finnsson is a young Icelandic footballer who plays for Borussia Dortmund II in the German 3rd division. He started his career with Fylkir in Iceland before moving to FC Groningen in the Netherlands. He then spent time on loan at Fylkir in Iceland before signing with Brentford in England.

Fylkir
Kolbeinn began his career in Iceland with the Fylkir academy. However, his development was so rapid that he became the club’s youngest player when he made his debut, aged 14 years and 229 days, in a 3–0 group stage League Cup victory over Þróttur on April 11, 2014.
On May 2, 2015, Kolbeinn signed a two-year contract with the team. When he came on as a substitute in a 1–1 draw with Fjölnir at 16 years and 256 days, he became the youngest player ever to start an Úrvalsdeild game. During the 2015 season, Kolbeinn made 15 appearances for Mörk when he departed Fylkisvollur in January 2016.
FC Groningen
On October 27, 2015, Kolbeinn re-signed with Eredivisie club FC Groningen on a two-and-a-half-year contract. He is the club’s youngest player to sign a deal thus far.
He began his career at Standard Liège as a member of the club’s U17 and U19 squads before making his debut for the club’s U23 team in the 2016–17 season, where he appeared in 24 Derde Divisie matches. However, when his deal expired at the end of the 2017–18 season, Kolbeinn was let go.
Brentford
Kolbeinn joined the Championship club Brentford on June 8, 2018, after spending the previous season with FC Groningen. He signed a two-year contract with an option for a third year, starting July 1, 2018.
After making his Iceland debut in January 2019, Kolbeinn became the first player in Brentford B’s history to earn an international cap without playing for the first team.
On February 17, he made his professional debut as a substitute for the first team in an FA Cup fifth-round game against Swansea City and was not utilized in the 4–1 loss. With nine goals from 43 appearances for the B side, Kolbeinn concluded the season. He left Griffin Park at the end of August 2019 after returning to Denmark to play with the B team.
Return To Fylkir (Loan)
Kolbeinn rejoined his former club, Fylkir of the Icelandic League, on May 3, 2019, on a two-month loan. Fylkir extended the loan by one month after he made 15 appearances and scored two goals.
Borussia Dortmund II
On August 20, 2019, Kolbeinn signed a three-year contract with BVB in Germany for an undisclosed sum, joining the reserve squad. He made 27 appearances and scored four goals during the team’s Regionalliga West championship-winning 2020–21 season after appearing in 17 games during the truncated 2019–20 season.
During the injury-riddled 2021–22 3. Liga season, Kolbeinn made 19 appearances without scoring. In March 2022, Kolbeinn signed a one-year extension to his contract, which was set to expire at the end of the season.
