At 17 years old, Garcia was a pro for the first time on June 9, 2016. Then, on August 8, 2018, he knocked out Jose Cayetano with a left uppercut in Cancun. He signed with Golden Boy Promotions in November 2016 and made his promotional debut against Edgar Meza in Tijuana on December 17, 2016.
In his second professional bout, Oscar de La Hoya announced that Garcia would make his stage debut on December 17 at The Forum as part of the Smith-Hopkins light-heavyweight main event. Garcia won by knockout in the second round of his debut fight against Edgar Meza.
In September 2019, Garcia inked a new five-year contract with Golden Boy Promotions. Golden Boy did not reveal the specifics of the multi-year agreement.

Garcia VS Duno
In response to his victory, Golden Boy announced that Garcia’s next bout would be the co-main event of Canelo Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. On September 18, 2019, Romero Duno was revealed as Garcia’s future opponent. With a first-round knockout, Garcia captured the WBC Silver lightweight title against Duno.
Garcia VS Fonseca
Golden Boy declared that Garcia would face Francisco Fonseca on February 14, 2020, at the Honda Center in Anaheim. However, the bout between Garcia and Fonseca didn’t go for long when he landed a lead left hook to knock him out in the first round.
Garcia VS Campbell
On October 8, Golden Boy reported that Garcia would challenge Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell for the interim WBC lightweight title at Fantasy Springs Resort, Indio, California. The bout was originally intended to occur on December 5, 2020, but was postponed to January 2, 2021, after Campbell contracted Coronavirus.
In his second fight with Campbell, Garcia had his first professional knockdown. However, he got back up straight away after hitting the canvas. Later in the bout, in round 7, Garcia hit Luke Campbell with a punch that ended the fight.
CompuBox statistics reveal that Garcia out-landed Campbell 94 to 74 overall (32%) and 77 to 51 in power punches (44%), whereas Campbell outlanded him in jabs 23 to 17 (15%). It was ultimately Campbell’s final fight before retirement.
Canceled Bouts VS Fortuna And Diaz
It was reported on April 13, 2021, by DAZN that Garcia would defend his newly won WBC interim lightweight belt against Javier Fortuna, a Dominican former WBA (Regular) super featherweight champion. The fight was scheduled to occur on July 9 in a venue to be announced, with the winner being mandated to face WBC lightweight Kingpin Devin Haney.
On April 24, Garcia announced he had withdrawn from the fight due to “health and well-being issues.” To replace Garcia, former IBF super featherweight champion Joseph Diaz agreed to move up to lightweight and face Fortuna on July 9. The WBC interim lightweight title was subsequently removed from Garcia, with the title going to Diaz and Fortuna instead.
On October 8, 2021, Golden Boy Promotions reported that Garcia would face Joseph Diaz in Los Angeles on November 27 for the WBC’s interim lightweight title, following Díaz’s victory over Fortuna. However, Mike Coppinger of ESPN announced on October 15 that García had a hand injury, and the bout with Diaz has been postponed.

On April 9, 2022, Golden Boy reported that Garcia would return to the ring after a lengthy retirement against former IBO lightweight champion Emmanuel Tagoe on April 9. He easily dominated Tagoe and knocked him down in Round 2, winning a unanimous decision with the scores of 119-108, 119-108, and 118-109.
